hypnotrochoid is inspired by the process of meditation during the passage of a 10-day vipassana by the author of the work. The practice of meditation begins with concentration, total focus and full presence. The goal of the practice is to deepen focus and maintain concentration for as long as possible.
During the practice, thoughts and ideas appear that distract from meditation, take attention to themselves. At this point, the meditator(s) releases the object of distraction and begins the practice anew. The installation shows this path through the development of generative algorithms applied to the hypotrochoid function.
Time after time, hypnotrochoid shows a unique way of developing parametric patterns from a single point, over time the patterns disintegrate, and the installation begins its journey anew. Chronologically, the work has neither beginning nor end, each iteration is unique and unrepeatable, calculated by generative algorithms in real time.
