Sasha Kojjio's artistic practice is based on three key elements – concept, aesthetics and program code. Sasha chose media art as the main medium, because it allows through programming translate a visual message to create a fundamentally new experience for the viewer and interact with him on a non-semantic level.
Sasha Kojjio is founder of media.tribe – the collective of media artists, and he is responsible for creating its main elements - visual and programming. With a similar approach in the artworks creation process, media.tribe's works are more devoted to emotions and movement, and Sasha Kojjio's works are more devoted to aesthetics and concepts. In addition to visual and audial dialogue with the viewer, it is important for Sasha that the viewer gets an experience at the level of conceptual perception, considers the message laid down by the artist and the subtle form of its execution.
Sasha Kojjio's works are minimalistic, but at the same time technologically and compositionally complex. His practice could be described as static, it is immersive meditative, as if it stretches and savors the moment.
An important role for the author is played by the reflection of reality, the present moment in the projects. So in his early works, Sasha researched a lot of looped feedback algorithms for generating graphics, when the output of a function is infinitely fed to its input and mixes changes into this cycle, and the viewer watches in real time how the work unfolds before his eyes.
Sasha builds his works around research of various mathematical, scientific, software phenomena, for example:
Hypotrochoid - constructed using just one mathematical formula of the hypotrochoid. The work has no cycle and develops in real time in front of the viewer. Thus, every moment is unique and will never happen again. The installation is very meditative and slow, explores the parametric patterns of the function and allows the viewer to fully immerse himself in it.
Overlapping - using projectors and layers of projection film demonstrates and explores the optical effect of focusing at a point in space when the distance to the focal plane changes.
Semantic failure is a project visually built on working with huge arrays of text infinitely generated by artificial intelligence. In this work, artificial intelligence endlessly tries to convey in words the sensation that occurs when you can't find the words to convey the sensation that occurs when you can't find the words to convey the sensation that occurs when you can't find the words to convey the sensation that occurs...
Sasha Kojjio's works have been presented at media art festivals in Russia - in Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, as well as part of the exhibition of media.tribe collective projects in the USA, China, Spain.
